Category: Cinema Biography | Last Updated: 2026
Career in Brief
Trisha Krishnan is one of the longest-lasting and most respected actresses in South Indian cinema. With a career spanning over two decades, she has successfully worked across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Hindi films, remaining relevant across generations.
She rose to stardom in the early 2000s with blockbuster commercial films, dominated both Tamil and Telugu industries during her peak years, and later reinvented herself with emotionally rich, performance-oriented roles. Her career is often cited as one of the best examples of a successful “second innings” for a mainstream Indian actress.
Early Life & Education
Trisha Krishnan was born on May 4, 1983, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, into a Palakkad Iyer family. An academically strong student, she completed her BBA degree from Ethiraj College for Women.
Interestingly, cinema was not her initial ambition — she once aspired to become a criminal psychologist.
Modeling & Entry into Cinema
During her college days, Trisha entered modeling and won Miss Chennai (1999). Her participation in Miss India 2001 earned her the “Beautiful Smile” award, which led to film opportunities.
Rise, Peak & Reinvention
After a cameo in Jodi (1999), Trisha made her lead debut with Mounam Pesiyadhe (2002). Films like Ghilli, Varsham, and Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana made her a household name.
Her portrayal of Jessie in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010) became iconic. Following a brief slowdown, she delivered a career-defining comeback with 96 (2018) and later gained pan-Indian recognition as Princess Kundavai in Ponniyin Selvan I & II.
Personal Life & Social Work
Trisha maintains a largely private personal life. She was briefly engaged in 2015. Beyond cinema, she is a committed animal rights activist, works closely with PETA, and serves as a UNICEF Celebrity Advocate.
